SDI or Strategic Defense Initiative

We always have known it by the Star wars, people may think is the movie but no is the nick name for, Strategic Defense Initiative or SDI. This program started on March 23 of 1983 under the command of President Ronald Reagan.

The SDI program was designed to prevent and or watch for any missiles that were fire from anywhere, specially the USSR. Basically it was like a satellite and a land base watching or looking for anything that was going on so that way the United Stated can try or stop those missiles. But as we all know there wasn’t any missile or bomb use during the whole Cold War. So by the end of the Cold War, thirty billion dollars were invested on the SDI program and the program was never use it for the best of the human raise I would say.

The SDI program was abandoned, but there were also two S.A.L.T. Treaty with the USSR that no longer exists, now known as Russia about the anti-ballistic missiles, bombs ECT. In 2001 President George W. Bush cited article 15 of the ABM treaty and took the United States out of it, and the relationship with Russia have being improving.

Biography of Edwin E. Aldrin (AKA Buzz)

Background: Aldrin was born on January 20 of 1930, in Montclair, New Jersey. He has two sons and one daughter, he is currently married to Lois Driggs of Phoenix. Combined then two have a family made up six grown children and event one grandson.

Education: Buzz graduated from Montclair High School, in New Jersey. He received a bachelor of science degree in 1951 at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, he graduated third in his class. And he also has a doctorate of science in Astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge. He went to another six honorary College and University and got degrees for all six of then. Buzz thesis was Guidance for Manned Orbital Rendezvous.

Awards: Buzz won many awards, like the Presidential Medal for Freedom in 1969, the Robert J. Collier trophy, the Robert H. Goddard Memorial Trophy and the Harmon International Trophy in 1967.

NASA Experience: Aldrin was part of the third group of astronauts from the NASA in October of 1963. By November 11 of 1966 Aldrin and command pilot James Lovell were launched into out of space in board of Gemini 12 spacecraft for a four day mission or flight. Aldrin went on to set a New World Record for Extravehicular Activity (EVA) by staying 5 hours and 30 minutes outside the spacecraft. Aldrin and Neil Armstrong went into the lunar surface on July 20 of 1969, completing a 2 hours and 15 lunar EVA.

Aldrin resigned from the NASA on July 1971, he spent or lasted 289 hours and 53 minutes in space, which 7 hours and 53 minutes were in EVA.

Experience: Before joining the NASA Aldrin was in 66 combat flying a F-86s in duty during the Korea conflict. He flew F-100s as a flight commander at Bitburg Germany. In 1972 he retired from the Air Forced after 21 years of active duty. As jet fighter pilot Aldrin shot tow MIG 15 aircraft down.

Dr. Aldrin is the President of the Starcraft Enterprise at, Laguna Beach, California.

The impact of this event on the United States

The Democrats view the Sputnik as a issue of National Defense. Their ability to launched the Sputnik into space gave U.S. the fear of they would carry Nuclear Weapon to attack the U.S. from the space. The U.S. Defense Department immediately started the Explorer project after the launching of Sputnik I. On January 31, 1958, the United States successfully launched satellite named Explorer I. In July 1958, Congress passed the National Aeronautics and Space Act, which created NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) on October 1, 1958.
